Sudden rainshower
as I biked in, sunny rides
are forgettable

dark sea horizon
pounded by angled sunbeams
still serenely straight

Sat down, couldn't sing

"it is well with my soul" was

her favorite song

Students on the roof
the moon hidden behind clouds
is it that bright spot?

--composed 20 September

Useless layabout
in the sun my only task
watch the horizon

The air has a bite

the world ablaze with color

soon all will be white

Hard-working cricket
chirps alone as usual
we only have one
